About Fierce Threads

In a world obsessed with fast food, fast travel and fast fashion, wouldn’t it be nice to be given an opportunity to slow down, buy handmade and support ethically produced products that honour the origins of the materials and our planet?

At Fierce Threads, that’s what we strive to achieve.

Fierce Threads started from very humble beginnings…

First, as I was looking for hidden gems on the kerbsides during my local council’s household waste collection days I began noticing how much fabric was being thrown away.

Soon I discovered that our major Australian charity stores ship “unwearable” clothing (this includes clothing with faded colours, missing buttons other small repairable flaws) overseas to be processed into rags for industry.

These two events kept circulating in my mind. While they made me feel uneasy, at the same time, the creative part of my brain was yelling at me, telling me this is an opportunity.

I began researching and creating my designs. I played with fabric. I created. I set up a cramped little sewing studio in a storage unit with a fold-up picnic table to cut fabric on. I broke a LOT of sewing machine needles. I drew patterns. I took a few sewing classes. I kept collecting unwanted fabric. I created my own business logos, branding stamps and website. The ball was rolling.

Now, I have a range of products that I add to whenever a new fabric becomes available or new inspiration strikes. Most of our Fierce Threads products are available to order through the website and we ship all over Australia. Fierce Threads also periodically sells at local markets. Keep an eye out for dates on Instagram and Facebook.

At the heart of all we do is the knowledge that generally, handmade items are much more kind to the environment. With that in mind, we produce as much as possible without the need for machinery or industrial processes. All our labels are hand-stamped using rubber stamps created by other small Aussie businesses. I source all the fabrics personally and each project is individually hand cut and sewn by hand. We waste nothing.

We hope that when you purchase a Fierce Threads product you will pour yourself a nice cup of tea and take a moment to consider the origin and previous life of the fabric we have used and to acknowledge the work, of the  many hands, that has gone into bringing this fibre to you. Ultimately we hope that through purchasing Fierce Threads products you will feel good about choosing to be kind to the environment.

Fierce Threads is located on the traditional lands of the Cammeraygal people of the Eora nation. We are grateful for the first custodians of this land, who managed it and cared for it across countless generations. We pay respect to the decision-makers, leaders and elders of the past and present and we invite them to walk with us as we honour the land through our actions.
